ELEC­TION can­di­dates bat­tling to be­come Wilm­slow’s MP will take part in a public de­bate.

The five Par­lia­men­tary can­di­dates for Tat­ton are in­vited to a hus­tings at Wilm­slow United Re­formed Church, at 9.30am on Satur­day.

Labour can­di­date David Pinto-Duschin­sky, Gareth Wil­son, from the Lib­eral Democrats, Con­ser­va­tive Ge­orge Os­borne and the Green Party’s Tina Rothery will at­tend. UKIP can­di­date Stu­art Hut­ton will not at­tend, due to an­other ap­point­ment.

Mr Os­borne hopes to win the seat he first claimed in 2001 again, while his op­po­nents want to per­suade vot­ers Wilm­slow is ready for change.

Each can­di­date will have a three-minute pre­sen­ta­tion be­fore an­swer­ing ques­tions sub­mit­ted in ad­vance and taken from the floor.

The hus­tings will be chaired by Tony Burn­ham, a re­tired min­is­ter and for­mer na­tional pres­i­dent of Churches To­gether in Eng­land.

Rev Kirsty Thorpe, chair­man of Churches To­gether in Wilm­slow which is or­gan­is­ing the event, said: “We want the can­di­dates to tell us their vi­sion of what sort of so­ci­ety they want to cre­ate.”
