PUBLIC WILL QUIZ MP HOPEFULS IN ELECTION DEBATE
ELECTION candidates battling to become Wilmslow’s MP will take part in a public debate.
The five Parliamentary candidates for Tatton are invited to a hustings at Wilmslow United Reformed Church, at 9.30am on Saturday.
Labour candidate David Pinto-Duschinsky, Gareth Wilson, from the Liberal Democrats, Conservative George Osborne and the Green Party’s Tina Rothery will attend. UKIP candidate Stuart Hutton will not attend, due to another appointment.
Mr Osborne hopes to win the seat he first claimed in 2001 again, while his opponents want to persuade voters Wilmslow is ready for change.
Each candidate will have a three-minute presentation before answering questions submitted in advance and taken from the floor.
The hustings will be chaired by Tony Burnham, a retired minister and former national president of Churches Together in England.
Rev Kirsty Thorpe, chairman of Churches Together in Wilmslow which is organising the event, said: “We want the candidates to tell us their vision of what sort of society they want to create.”
