It’s time to nominate schools
THE fantastic achievements made by our schools are to be celebrated in the Manchester Schools Awards.
The awards, being run for the second year, are open to all primary, secondary and independent schools across the region.
There are nine categories and nominations can come from the schools themselves or staff, governors, parents or students.
Among the winners last year were Ashton-onMersey School, for its fundraising work, and Moorfield Primary School in Stockport for its vegetable patch project.
Elizabeth Seers. from the Heaton School in Hea- ton Moor, was named Headteacher of the Year.
Events manager Suzanne Davies said: “The awards were a great success last year.
“It was fantastic for us to be able to reward the great pupils, teachers and sup- port staff and celebrate the best in education across the region. Nominations aren’t just open to teachers or pupils we are encouraging entries from any one involved in education.
“It’s a great opportunity to thank, reward or celebrate people engaged in learning.”
The Manchester College will once again be sponsoring the awards. Principal Lisa O’Loughlin said: “We are excited to be involved with the Manchester School Awards for the second time.
“It is important to champion the excellent work going on in our region and we are very proud to sponsor this celebration for schools and their pupils.”

The deadline for entries is Friday, May 29.
A panel of judges will then select a shortlist of one school from each borough to go forward to the awards lunch at Manchester’s Hilton Hotel on Friday, July 10.
The award categories are: Healthy Living Award Active Community Award, Best School Newspaper/ Website Award, School Support Staff of the Year, One Education Headteacher of the Year, One Education Inspirational Teacher of the Year, Class of the Year, One Education Primary School of the Year and The Manchester College Secondary School of the Year.
