Zabaleta hits back at City’s critics

Wilmslow Express - - CITY LIFE LOCAL - Stuart Brennan @StuBrennanMEN

PABLO Zabaleta has blasted the critics who have labelled City’s season a ‘disaster’.

And the Blues ace has defender manager Manuel Pellegrini, who he says deserves more respect for winning two trophies last season.

The Blues have been labelled flops after failing to follow up last season’s Premier League and Capital One Cup double and Pellegrini’s future is in doubt. But Zabaleta insists the criticism is an over- reaction.

“You look at Liverpool, Arsenal, they are also some of the greatest teams and they’ve not won that many trophies in the last few years,” he said.

“But at City it seems one disappointing season is like a disaster. Maybe it’s because we’ve won the Premier League twice, the FA Cup, the Capital One.

“Now it seems like because we have not won something it’s a disaster and we have to change seven or eight players and the manager – that’s what people say.”

Zabaleta also backed Pellegrini to bounce back.

“The manager deserves more respect from everyone,” he added. “He came last season, he won the league and the Capital One. We cannot blame just the manager for this moment.

“Individual players have also not been great in the whole season.

“Everyone is responsible – when you don’t win titles it can be a little bit frustrating for everyone.”
