Keeping boot camp secret was so hard
TV bigwigs told teen singer not to spill the beans
A former Wishaw school pupil hid his X Factor success from friends after being sworn to secrecy by talent show bosses.
James Hughes, 17, sailed through to the next round of the X Factor on Sunday night after wowing the judges with his impressive voice when he sang Etta James’ ‘I’d Rather Go Blind’.
James, of Shotts, said: “Keeping the X Factor a secret was so hard.
“I was so overwhelmed with getting through that I just wanted to tell everyone but I couldn’t.
“Going in to face the judges was weird, a young Scottish guy going in to meet Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh. That does not happen every day. I was just so scared to be told that I wasn’t good enough and when I went in to the audition room I gave it everything I could and got amazing feedback which was so emotional for me.”

James, who studies at New College Lanarkshire, Motherwell, received three yes’ from judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Nicole Scherzinger.
After James’ performance Simon said: “Was that really you singing?
“You walk in and you can hardly talk and then this thing comes out of you.”
Nicole added: “It’s like a soul woman lives inside of you.”
James’ family were with him on the day to support him and he told judges his parents were his biggest fans.
He said: “I was only trying out for experience and now I’m going to boot camp and I have a chance of going further.
“My family supported me beyond imagination on the audition day and I couldn’t have done it without them.
“Singing is all I’ll ever want to do, it’s my dream and I now I
