Our new MSYPs are stars in the making

Elected to Holyrood

- Ross Thomson

Budding politicians from across North Lanarkshire have been elected to serve in the Scottish Youth Parliament.

The Motherwell and Wishaw constituency will be represented by Nathan Donnelly and Orla McDevitt who were elected to the Holyrood parliament which represents the interests of young people aged 12 to 25.

North Lanarkshire Council’s youth work development officer Amy Reynolds, said: “I am really looking forward to working with the newly-elected MSYPs. They all worked very hard during their campaigns and I am sure they will continue to do so in their new roles.

“I have also encouraged all the candidates to maintain their involvement in local youth participation, through their youth forums or other youth groups, as we are able to provide plenty opportunities for their involvement.

“I would like to thank all the young people who voted, and all the staff members who supported the election process.”

The Airdrie and Shotts constituency will be represented by Sarah Quinn and Chris Costello.

Sixteen- year- old Sarah, who lives in Shotts, is a pupil at St Aidan’s High School and was delighted to be elected.

Nathan, Orla and Sarah are pictured along with the other representatives from North Lanarkshire following their election which was confirmed after votes were counted at Cardinal Newman High School last week.

MSYPs range in age from 14 to 25 and represent constituencies in all 32 local authorities throughout the country, and several national voluntary organisations.
