Stunt team’s visit to OLHS
Lent
The theme for Lent at Our Lady’s High School is No Greater Love.
This is a quotation from St John’s Gospel: “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”
During Lent, both pupils and staff are encouraged to respond to this theme by attending Mass as often as possible.
Mass is celebrated on Tuesday at lunchtime and Wednesday and Friday mornings at 8.35. Pi Day
Pi Day is celebrated each year on March 14 – 3.14!
This year, events in OLHS included a π reciting competition for S1/2, a π colouring competition and a π word quiz, and Pilish Poetry writing in English. NLC iBike
S1 and S2 enjoyed a display by Ian Drummond and Brett Penfold of the 3SIXTY Bicycle Stunt Team, who demonstrated wheelies, hops and a magic line in mucking around on bikes for the entertainment of the crowds.
Mrs Zambonini thanks everyone who came along and helped, especially volunteers Mr Weir and Mr Deans, whose street cred went through the roof!
A huge thanks to Clare Brady from NLC iBike initiative for organising this event. Sky Sports
Sky Sports Commonwealth medal winner, Keith Cook, has been working with pupils in S1 Nurture Group to provide some fencing training and team-building activities.
The Sky Sports ‘Living for Sport’ programme is aimed at developing ‘ Mental Toughness, Hunger to Achieve, People Skills, Breaking barriers, Sport and Life Knowledge, and Planning for Success.’
The group moved rapidly from basic movements through balance, parrying and scoring. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed taking part- thank you to Mr McGurk for organising Keith’s visit. World Downs Syndrome Day
The date for WDSD, the 21st day of the 3rd month, was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.
To show support, pupils were asked to wear odd socks on March 21 and bring in £1 donation which will go towards their Learning Partners in Bothwellpark High in Motherwell. Autism Awareness Week
Autism Awareness Week takes place this year March 27 to April 2.
Events arranged so far include a staff coffee morning, joint karaoke with Bothwellpark pupils, and a nonuniform day - wear pink/purple!
Also as part of Autism Awareness Week, Jeanie McFarlane from Scottish Autism has very kindly offered to organise a twilight raising-awareness session.
Jeanie has been working regularly with some pupils and she is very aware of the issues that these pupils currently face in and around the school, and is happy to offer help and advice during the twilight session.
This course has been organised for Wednesday, March 29, and will start at 3pm in the ASN base. Ready to Vote
Miss Halket would like to say thank you to everyone who participated in the #ReadyToVote campaign in OLHS.
All pupils who will be aged 16 or over on May 4 should now be registered to vote.
If any pupil missed out on registration sessions they should pop along to her classroom at lunchtime.
