Councillor’s demanding answers on water shutdown

-

Craigneuk councillor Gary O’Rorke has demanded answers from Scottish Water over their shambolic shutdown last week.

Last week, we reported how 1700 properties in Craigneuk had their water cut off with no warning.

A Scottish Water spokesman apologised to the community for failing to follow guidelines for informing residents.

Now the Independent Alliance councillor has wrote to the Scottish Water on behalf of angry tenants.

He wrote:“It has come to my attention that water supplies were shut off to a number of my constituents within Craigneuk.

“I have been informed that no notice was given to residents and they have subsequently made complaints to me.

“On making enquiries, I have found some residents were told that cards were put through some doors on Saturday April 15, but not all.

“Being that this was an Easter bank holiday weekend, I feel that Scottish Water should have informed all residents affected at least seven days in advance.

“Can I ask if there was a reason that no notice was given to most residents in this instance?

“If I could also make a suggestion that, where possible, it may be worth contacting the council directly or the local elected members of the area in advance so as to allow members to relay information to the community that will be affected.”

Last week a Scottish Water spokesman said that normal procedure is that customers are notified of any shut-off of water and postcards detailing the distruption but some residents didn’t receive them.

He added:“We will be looking to better understand the reason why some customers did not receive postcards ahead of the planned work.”

I have been informed that no notice was given to residents and they have subsequently made complaints to me . . .
