To headline shows Sam Allan delighted after getting pro licence

- Michael Temlett

Sam Allan cannot wait to be headlining boxing shows with his brother – five years after they took the kickboxing world by storm.

The Shotts man was thrilled when he was handed a boxing licence and is set to make his professional bow next month at the Crowne Plaza in Glasgow.

Allan has made the jump from kickboxing to boxing, as did his younger brother Scott, and he is already targeting title bouts.

The 26-year-old will compete at light welterweight and Scott fights at bantamweight, meaning the two will not clash.

However, Sam admits he is already in competition with his brother and cannot wait to set foot in the ring.

He said: “When Scott and I used to compete at kickboxing shows in Wishaw we would always be selling 300, 400 tickets so hopefully one day we can get a boxing show in Wishaw and do the same.

“When we were kickboxing Scott was always the flamboyant and brash boxer, whereas I’m more laidback, so some people bought tickets to see me and not Scott and vice versa.

“I’ve signed for three years and I’ll take each fight as it comes but I want to win the Scottish title.

“Scott won the title last year so I always want to try and go one better than what he has achieved.”

Sam believes he will be sharper than ever when he steps into the ring following a year of travelling and training in Thailand.

The Shotts boxer enjoyed success at kickboxing but believes the time was right to make a switch.

He said: “When I was away I trained with former world champions, Commonwealth Games gold medallists and Manny Pacquiao’s first trainer so I’ve learnt a lot.

“Since the fight has been announced my training has been even more focused and I’ve got the fire in me now.

“I was chomping at the bit to get going and after finding out I had my licence Willie Limond has helped train me and he’s been absolutely brilliant.

“Now I just have to go out there and show the boxing world what we kickboxers can do.

“I knew I needed to get back out into the ring at some point just to feel that buzz you get when you’re out there.”
