Man, 45, nabbed buy­ing drink for teens un­der 18

A New­mains man was caught by po­lice buy­ing booze for un­der-age teenagers.

At around 6.05pm on June 17, the 45-year-old al­legedly pur­chased al­co­hol from a li­censed premises in Tiree Cres­cent and passed it onto a per­son un­der the age of 18.

The man was charged and a re­port has been sent to the procu­ra­tor fis­cal.

A po­lice- led ini­tia­tive, en­ti­tled You’re Ask­ing For It, has been run­ning to make young peo­ple and adults aware of the is­sues and dan­gers if buy­ing or ask­ing for al­co­hol es­pe­cially for young peo­ple.

A ground- break­ing ini­tia­tive by po­lice in Wishaw has been recog­nised for cut­ting street drink­ing, an­ti­so­cial be­hav­iour and vi­o­lent of­fences.

The ini­tia­tive fin­ished run­ner- up at the Safer Com­mu­ni­ties Awards which were held at the Grand Cen­tral Ho­tel in Glas­gow last year.
