Sex attacker struck off the teaching register
A retired PE teacher, who sexually assaulted a pupil at a North Lanarkshire school, has been struck off the teaching register.
Bruce Rankin was jailed for 18 months at Hamilton Sheriff Court in May f after he admitted sexually assaulting three girls, including one victim at the school where Rankin taught prior to his retirement in 2014.
The 58-year-old carried out his crimes against the girls between December 1, 2010 and June 29, 2014.
Rankin, who was not present for the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) hearing, agreed to be removed from Scotland’s teaching register.
The GTCS statement said:“It was clear that he admitted the allegations and sought to be removed from the Register.
“Accordingly, the Panel was satisfied that it was unlikely that he would attend a further hearing should this hearing be postponed.”
