Cafe hosts events to talk about sui­cide

A Mother­well cafe is mark­ing Sui­cide Preven­tion Week, which starts on Mon­day, by hold­ing a se­ries of events.

Wind­mills Ca f e is host­ing Con­ver­sa­tion Ca f é, a part n e r s h i p be­tween Wind­mills and Sui­cide Preven­tion North La­nark­shire.

Dur­ing Sui­cide Preven­tion Week, which starts next Mon­day, the cafe are of­fer­ing peo­ple the op­por­tu­nity to talk about how they are feel­ing, and if they have been af­fected by sui­cide.

On Mon­day, Wed­nes­day and Fri­day, the cafe, based in Bran­don Pa­rade East, will have a qual­i­fied coun­sel­lor avail­able and trained staff that can sign­post peo­ple to the right sup­port.

A cafe spokesper­son said: “There are around 52 sui­cides each year in North La­nark­shire, equat­ing to one sui­cide per week.

“By work­ing to­gether we can make our com­mu­nity a place where we sup­port well­be­ing and talk openly about sui­cide and men­tal health.

“Let’s shat­ter the se­crecy around sui­cide and keep the con­ver­sa­tion alive.”
