Station bid moves on
Shieldmuir Station will finally welcome a park and ride facility next year.
Last week, pregnant mum Lisa Sneddon called on a park and ride scheme to be installed after crashing her motor into a parked car next to the station.
She then started a petition which attracted more than 200 signatures. Now Housebuilder Taylor Wimpey has announced plans to build the car park at the station in Craigneuk following talks with Nor th Lanarkshire Council.
Work is expected to begin in January with the project looking to be completed by April 2018.
Craigneuk residents have faced a longrunning battle to try and get a park and ride facility – with the first proposals lodged a decade ago at the Range Road site.
Now Tory Councillor Nathan Wilson has welcomed the plans and believes it is about time.
He said: “Residents have rightly been very vocal about the need for a park and ride at this location and have worked very hard to try and achieve this.
“It is excellent news that Taylor Wimpey has now confirmed that it will start construction in the new year with the aim of having the park and ride completed by April.
“I have stressed to them that this is a high priority for residents particularly because the previous attempts at creating a park and ride over the last ten years were ultimately unsuccessful.
“It is therefore critical that plans are followed through to a conclusion.”
