Wishaw has its own queen of the ice.
Eight-year-old ice skating starlet Lia Wilson is celebrating this week after landing a spot on the Great Britain development team.
Being part of this squad means Lia, who lives in Netherton, must attend training camps with other GB figure skaters in Sheffield, where she will be fitness tested on a regular basis and continually monitored by The National Ice Skating Association (NISA).
Proud mum Laura said: “We are so proud of Lia. She was worked really hard and deserves everything she has got.
“She was only six when she decided she wanted to skate after watching Dancing on Ice.
“It’s great to be able to see her doing so well so quickly.”
Lia, a member of the East Kilbride Figure Skating Club, trains four times a week at the rink.
This means Laura or husband Craig start their day at 4.30am on Thursday and Friday as Lia trains before she goes to school at Muirhouse Primary.
However, the hard work has certainly paid off as in the last year Lia has gone from competing at level one to level four, skating against girls twice her age and she has won her first level three competition.
