High hopes at Carluke despite cup exit
Uddingston ........... 4 Carluke FC ............ 2 Carluke manager Paul Davies watched on as his new-look side crashed out of the Challenge Cup.
But he reckons their second-half performance proves they’ll make an impact this season.
Davies dished out eight debuts only to see the Cobras trail Uddingston by 3-0 at the break.
But they struck twice in the second half through Ryan Kells and William McGlone to leave boss Davies full of hope for the future.
He said:“Despite the defeat it feels like a new era at the club.
“We decided we needed to change things at the club and stay true to our philosophy.
“We’ve not had a game for a few weeks so I decided to use that time to bring in young players who are hungry and committed.
“As well the eight new players, there were three who had only played a couple of times.
“With a squad of 20 players to choose from this week, there’s now competition for places.
“It was refreshing to see the young lads take to the pitch.
“We did find it difficult in the first half but we were a different team in the second half.
“We grew in confidence, won it 2-1 and now we’re looking forward to the next game.”
