CELEBRATES

-

There was plenty of fun in the sun as Newmains celebrated its local gala day.

This year’s Gala Queen Olivia Neilson was crowned in front of family and friends as hundreds more enjoyed the glorious sunshine before the heavens opened later in the afternoon.

Earlier in the day the colourful procession made its way through the streets with everything from clowns to Little Bo Peep being part of the parade.

Newmains Gala Committee secretary Mary Gilfillan said: “We had a smashing day. There were no hiccups and everyone enjoyed themselves.

“The rain didn’t come on until 4pm so we couldn’t ask for much better.

“All the kids in the court had a great time. We had a lot of positive feedback from the children and their parents.

The gala day brought an end to Newmains Civic Week.

Events included football, the Brains of Newmains quiz night, a kids talent show and inflatables.

Mary added: “The good weather helped us and all the events were well attended.

“We had 13 teams for the Brains of Newmains and over 90 kids at the football.”
