Win sets up runner for Abu Dhabi
Young Wishaw athlete Margaret Newell warmed up for the World Special Olympics in Abu Dhabi next year by winning gold at an English competition.
Margaret travelled to Alexander Stadium in Birmingham to compete in the West Midlands Special Olympic Championships.
And in her last outdoor competition before heading to Abu Dhabi in March, she excelled by winning gold in the 800m and bronze in the mixed 1500m.
Law and District AAC’S Lesley Mcnicol said: “Many congratulations to our Margaret on another successful event.
“She is now concentrating on her training from now until March, training at least three times a week both indoors and outside on track and cross country.”
In other Law AAC news, 13 of the club’s athletes took part in the Half Marathon and 10K races in Glasgow at the Great Scottish Run 2018.
Times in the half marathon were: Darran Muir 1:12:33, Martin Kay 1:43:45, Martin Whitton 1:48:59, Jim Rowley 2:06:09, Chris Barbour 2:07:38, Angela Robson 3:01:55.
Times in the 10K were: Ross Hill 38:35, Tony Higgins 38:38, Jessica Robson 39:48, James Scullion 43:45, Bobby Hill 43:51, Mark Milligan 48:59, Finn Milligan 49:00.
