Win sets up run­ner for Abu Dhabi

Young Wishaw ath­lete Mar­garet Newell warmed up for the World Spe­cial Olympics in Abu Dhabi next year by win­ning gold at an English com­pe­ti­tion.

Mar­garet trav­elled to Alexan­der Sta­dium in Birm­ing­ham to com­pete in the West Mid­lands Spe­cial Olympic Cham­pi­onships.

And in her last out­door com­pe­ti­tion be­fore head­ing to Abu Dhabi in March, she ex­celled by win­ning gold in the 800m and bronze in the mixed 1500m.

Law and Dis­trict AAC’S Les­ley Mc­ni­col said: “Many con­grat­u­la­tions to our Mar­garet on an­other suc­cess­ful event.

“She is now con­cen­trat­ing on her train­ing from now un­til March, train­ing at least three times a week both in­doors and out­side on track and cross coun­try.”

In other Law AAC news, 13 of the club’s ath­letes took part in the Half Marathon and 10K races in Glas­gow at the Great Scot­tish Run 2018.

Times in the half marathon were: Dar­ran Muir 1:12:33, Martin Kay 1:43:45, Martin Whit­ton 1:48:59, Jim Row­ley 2:06:09, Chris Bar­bour 2:07:38, An­gela Rob­son 3:01:55.

Times in the 10K were: Ross Hill 38:35, Tony Hig­gins 38:38, Jes­sica Rob­son 39:48, James Scul­lion 43:45, Bobby Hill 43:51, Mark Mil­li­gan 48:59, Finn Mil­li­gan 49:00.
