MOVE MORE Slouching on the sofa, bingeing on a film-fest can leave you listless. “Circulation and heart rate slow when we do nothing, which reduces oxygen supply to the muscles and your body starts to ‘shut down’,” says physiotherapist Tim Allardyce (surreyphysio.co.uk). The solution – though it’s probably the last thing you feel like doing – is to get up and get moving!
GAME ON “Get creative with exercise,” suggests Janey. “Play charades in the garden or if you’re playing a board game, add fitness forfeits (if you win a point, nominate someone to do ten press-ups). Putting pedometers in stockings (perhaps with a prize for who does the most steps) is a clever ways to get people to want to move more!”
