Chef james martin tells polly dun­bar about his new culi­nary ad­ven­ture, why he had to step down from Satur­day Kitchen, and why he’s not averse to the odd twix…

James Martin, 45, was born in Mal­ton, North York­shire. His fam­ily were farm­ers on the Cas­tle Howard Es­tate near York, and he grew up help­ing in the kitchen. Af­ter cater­ing col­lege and a pe­riod work­ing in France, he won a job at Har­vey’s in Lon­don, where he trained un­der Marco Pierre White.

He first ap­peared on TV in 1996 with shows such as Ready Steady Cook. From 2006 un­til 2016, he was the pre­sen­ter of

BBC One’s hugely pop­u­lar se­ries Satur­day Kitchen – and made head­line news when he quit last year. His new show, Satur­day Morn­ing With James Martin, starts on ITV in Septem­ber. There will also be an Amer­i­can ver­sion of his re­cent hit French Ad­ven­ture.

James lives in Winch­ester with his girl­friend Louise Davies, who is a PA, and his two dogs. He has two restau­rants, The Kitchen, on the edge of the New For­est in Hamp­shire, and James Martin Manch­ester. >>
