Tak­ing HRT? It’s rec­om­mended to use the low­est ef­fec­tive dose for the short­est pos­si­ble time to lower your can­cer risk. ‘Re­search* found that women who take com­bined HRT have dou­ble the risk of breast can­cer. And if they use it for over 10 years, risks are even higher,’ says Prof Carmichael. ‘Once a woman stops us­ing HRT, her risk of breast can­cer will start to drop again, tak­ing about four years to go back to the same risk as if she hadn’t used it.’
