Bee friendly
You can’t beat a buddleja for bringing in the bees and butterflies and ‘Buzz Indigo’, a newly bred hybrid, flowers for twice as long as native species. Plant it in a sunny spot and, from June to October, you’ll have beautiful purple flower panicles that are fabulously fragrant and keep the pollinators happy. They make good cut flowers, too, but sear the stem ends in boiling water before placing in a vase. £19.95 for a 3ltr pot, sarahraven. com.
