Why You’ll Love…
where i went
An invitation to a wedding at Brasenose College was enough to tempt my husband and me into booking a long weekend in this historic city.
what i did
Aside from celebrating the marriage of our friends, we wandered through the Botanic Garden, browsed the stalls at the Covered Market and hired a traditional punt from Magdalen Bridge Boathouse. Though I must admit my husband had far better balance on board than I did!
what i ate
The rooftop restaurant at the Ashmolean Museum was an idyllic setting for a long lunch. We grazed on bruschetta topped with aubergine and green tomatoes, before ordering lemon and ricotta cannelloni. The buttery slices of toasted banana bread we devoured at The Missing Bean are well worth a mention, too.
where i stayed
Our first night was spent at Vanbrugh House Hotel, which has a beautiful baroque
exterior. Centrally located, it's within walking distance of 10 museums. We then enjoyed two nights at The Head Of The River – a chic pub on the banks of the Thames.
