Home & Craft: Makes and buys for the best festive setting
Set the perfect festive scene this year with our craft ideas, buys and tips
1 Mix & Match
Not enough chairs to go round? No problem! Gather all your seating at the table, including benches, and coordinate with matching cushions.
2 Forage For Free if you don’t want to spend money on extra decorations, look for them outdoors instead. next time you’re out walking, pick up some fallen nuts or feathers and save them for dressing the table. Clean them thoroughly before use, of course!
3 Christmas Candles Add a strip of festive-themed washi tape to the outside of a plain tealight for a cheap and cheerful update.
4 Beautiful baubles Not just for the tree, favourite baubles can be arranged in round or cylindrical vases for a glamorous table display.
5 Learn The Ropes Instead of using traditional napkin rings, which can often be quite pricey, use some thick twine or rope. Plait to make one long, intricate piece, then hot-glue or tie the ends together to form a loop that’s big enough for your napkins.
6 Pile ’Em High For a fun centrepiece, stack some presents on a cake stand and secure in place with a wide red ribbon. Perfect for building the anticipation for some after-dinner gifting.
7 What’s On The Menu? rather than leave guests guessing, print out your menu for the Christmas feast to come. this is a great way to get little ones involved, too – ask for their help designing it on the computer, or they could have a go at colouring them in.
