These have been shown to be among the most im­por­tant for pro­tect­ing cog­ni­tive abil­i­ties. They are rich in a num­ber of nu­tri­ents that are im­pli­cated as par­tic­u­larly healthy for the brain – fo­late, lutein, vi­ta­min E and beta-carotene among them. It takes only about one serv­ing a day to slow cog­ni­tive de­cline so you don’t have to eat these at every meal.

The darker the leaves, the greater the source of brain-healthy nu­tri­ents.

Many of the nu­tri­ents in leafy greens are fat sol­u­ble and are best ab­sorbed when they’re eaten with a healthy fat such as ex­tra-vir­gin olive oil, nuts, av­o­cado or fatty fish.
