Later Lovelies

Woman's Weekly (UK) - - Gardening -

Flowering from May through July, ornamental onions – with their fuzzy rounded purple-mauve flowers that look like lollipops atop slender stalks – will add a touch of stylish whimsy to your garden. Allium cristophii, which produces a head like a giant sparkler, is one of the best and, even when the flowers fade, the skeletal remains look curiously striking. To make a grander statement, plant alliums in clusters of three or five and for best effect, plant the variety ‘Purple Sensation’ all along

your border.
