Ap­prox­i­mately 72cm/28¼in wide by 70cm/27½in long.

MA­TE­ri­ALs

5 x 50g (104m) balls of King Cole Merino Blend DK (100% wool) in Pale Blue (1531), 2 balls in White (001) and 1 ball in each of Grey (Cler­i­cal 049) and Rust (Red­wood 1988)*. A 4mm (No. 8) cir­cu­lar knit­ting nee­dle (60-80cm length). Yarn is avail­able from theknit­tingnet­work.co.uk.

TEN­siON

22 stitches and 30 rows, to 10x10cm, over ss, us­ing 4mm nee­dles.

AB­BrE­vi­A­TiONs

St(s), stitch(es); k, knit; p, purl; ss, stock­ing st (k on right side and p on wrong side); mst, moss st; PB, Pale Blue.

NOTE

The blan­ket is worked in rows. Use cir­cu­lar nee­dle for large num­ber of stitches. Three charts are used: chart A Pen­guins, chart B Igloo and chart C Po­lar Bear. Work charts in ss, us­ing colours in­di­cated and add du­pli­cate stitch de­tail at end. Yarn amounts are based on aver­age re­quire­ments and are there­fore ap­prox­i­mate. In­struc­tions in square brack­ets are worked as stated af­ter 2nd bracket. With 4mm cir­cu­lar nee­dle and PB, cast on 159 sts.

1st row: P1, [k1, p1] to end.

Last row forms mst. Mst 11 more rows. Work first mo­tif sec­tion as fol­lows. Read­ing charts from right to left for odd-num­bered (right side) rows and from left to right for even­num­bered (wrong side) rows, work chart in ss and use sep­a­rate small balls of yarn for each coloured area, twist­ing yams to­gether on wrong side at joins. For Igloo (chart B) and Po­lar Bear (chart C) mo­tifs, add the de­tail in Grey and Rust at the end with du­pli­cate stitch (Swiss darn­ing), ac­cord­ing to the charts.
