Park up wisely

Don’t let a parking ticket ruin your day…

Woman's Weekly (UK) - - Marketplace -

Last year, the rac found that 17,137 parking tickets were issued every day in the months leading up to Christmas. So if you’re landed with a ticket, here’s what can you do…

1 Most of us never contest parking tickets. But did you know that over half of appeals win? So if you feel you have a good case, fight back!

2 If you’ve been ticketed at a supermarket as the tills were busy and you were only a few minutes late, speak to the store manager. Most of them can get the ticket cancelled.

3 In most cases, as long as you’re parked legally in the first place, you shouldn’t be fined within 10 minutes of your paid-for time expiring. Councils must now offer a 10-minute excess period and most (but not all!) private firms have signed up to that, too.

4 Excess Charge Notices and Fixed Penalty Notices come under criminal law, so appealing will be an entirely different process.

5 Which.co.uk has a brilliant tool to help you appeal your ticket, but make sure you always have a good reason before wasting your time.
