There’s really no way to replicate hitting mitts with boxing coaches in an authentic boxing gym, but if you have access to a punchbag (or, better yet, someone to hold the mitts for you) you can always try for the next best thing. After warming up with a skipping rope, do a few rounds of shadowboxi­ng (two minutes each with rest in between), starting with straight punches then moving on to combinatio­ns including hooks and uppercuts. On to the bag, where (with a pair of boxing gloves) you can try combinatio­ns including 10 straight punches, jab-crosshook and uppercut-hook-cross on the bag with sets of 10 burpees, 10 star jumps and 10 press-ups. Do this for two minutes, then rest and repeat 10 to 12 times. Finish with some core work and a cool-down.
