Well, cycling to work may be worth the sac­ri­fice be­cause a study by the Lon­don School of Hy­giene and Trop­i­cal Medicine found that you’ll have a lower BMI and less body fat than if you plod in on foot. Cycling (faster than 10mph, come on) burns more calo­ries per mile than walk­ing, and work­ing bursts of ex­er­cise into your daily rou­tine will keep you trim in the long term. Too far to cy­cle? Pub­lic trans­port is the next best thing: get off the bus early or run up the es­ca­la­tor – do squats on the tram – any­thing but the car.
