Raise your hand if you’ve ever claimed you like to ‘eat clean’? Mine’s firmly in the air, along with, I’d guess, the majority of you lot. As women who live our lives through the wellness lens, it goes without saying that nutrition is one of the key pillars of ensuring your health and body are in tip-top shape. And the enthusiasm for clean eating – despite the ambiguity of what that actually means – has been a guiding light for many. Until earlier this year, that is, when the BBC documentary Clean Eating: The Dirty Truth claimed to debunk misinformation we’d all readily lapped up. Ella Mills, aka Deliciously Ella, was the only food blogger-turned-influencer to appear on the programme – where she eloquently explained that her simple ethos of ‘more natural, less processed’ stands true – and this public display of guts is just one of the reasons I wanted Ella on the cover of this year’s Nutrition Issue. Now a fully-fledged businesswoman, she has three London delis, food products on sale in mainstream supermarkets and 28 million eyes on her social media feeds every month. Our cover story on page 36 shows Ella in a brand new light, as she tells us how she grew Deliciously Ella from a student sideline into a hugely successful company, and how the struggle to learn from her mistakes and maintain a personal/professional balance is as real for her as it is for you and me. You’ll also find three recipes created exclusively for Women’s Health readers. Talking of food, I joined a panel of nutrition experts to taste-test hundreds of products in our annual Women’s Health Food Awards – the winners are revealed on pages 115-123. If Ella is the original luminary of the food blogger world, Kayla Itsines is undoubtedly the superstar of fitness inspo. I lost 2st with the help of Kayla’s Bikini Body Guide after having my daughter last year. Working out in my living room, often using my baby as a weight (try it, she loved it!), ultimately gave me the confidence to head back to the gym where I’m at my happiest. Find her exclusive upper-body workout on page 83. Pull-ups, here I come. And here’s another treat for you: our first ever athleisure special – it’s all you need to shop the sports luxe trends of AW17. Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram @clairesanderson. Until next month.
