Known as allofeed­ing, an adult bird may feed an­other dur­ing the courtship rit­ual in or­der to prove their abil­ity in for­ag­ing and pro­vid­ing for young. These fan­tail pi­geons (known for hav­ing 30–40 tail feath­ers as op­posed to the usual 12–14) are one of a num­ber of bird species that do it.
