“Echid­nas are the only monotremes [egg-lay­ing mam­mals] cov­ered in spines. They use those spiky spines to pro­tect them­selves against preda­tors. There are only two monotremes in the world – the echidna and the platy­pus – and both are found in Aus­tralia! Echid­nas are also amaz­ing at dig­ging and only eat in­sects, such as ants and ter­mites.”
