Bounced back at the first at­tempt with Rafa Ben­itez still in charge, de­spite con­cerns over a lack of se­ri­ous money spent so far this sum­mer. The huge fan­base will back the team but it may not be an easy re­turn.

Brighton & hove Al­bion

Af­ter years in the lower di­vi­sions, of­ten with­out a ground, the Seag­ulls have ben­e­fit­ted from huge in­vest­ment from fan Tony Bloom, who has spent al­most £300m, cov­er­ing losses and build­ing an im­pres­sive new sta­dium. Man­ager Chris Hughton has Premier League ex­pe­ri­ence but his squad lacks qual­ity.

Huddersfield Town

Pro­moted via the play-offs af­ter David Wag­ner gal­vanised a squad with one of the low­est bud­gets in the Cham­pi­onship. The Ger­man, a close friend of Jur­gen Klopp, has a long list of new names to work with, in­clud­ing Steve Mounie.
