Bill and Laurel Cooper
Bill and Laurel Cooper are best known for writing the seminal blue water cruising book Sell Up and Sail in 1986, which is now in its fifth edition. The couple, who married in 1952 while Bill was a Lieutenant in the Royal Navy, sold their house in 1976 and built Fare
Well, a 58ft ketch, in which they began their cruising life. They then owned a number of boats, including
Hosanna, an 87ft spritsail Dutch barge, and finally Faraway, a 40ft motor barge, which they sold in 2014 due to ill health. Bill died in 2016 and Laurel, 88, continues to write on her own.
