Feedback plea over leaseholds
THE Law Society is calling on its members to provide feedback for a consultation exercise that could make life easier for leaseholders.
The Law Commission is seeking views on provisional proposals for a new, single enfranchisement regime designed to benefit leaseholders of both houses and flats.
The proposed reforms will focus on buying a freehold and extending a lease.
The Law Society said: “We encourage all members with an interest in the topics covered to respond to the consultation paper.
“The closing date for responses is January 7, 2019.”
Lawyers who would like their views to be considered by the Conveyancing and Land Law Committee for the Law Society’s response, are advised to email Property@LawSociety.org.uk by December 5, 2018.
The Law Commission is the statutory independent body created by the Law Commissions Act to keep the law of England and Wales under review and to recommend reform where it is needed. It aims to ensure that the law is as fair, modern, simple and as cost-effective as possible.
It also aims to codify the law, and repeal obsolete and unnecessary enactments.
