Dark look at life inspired by Dante
ARTIST David Collinge has used Dante’s Inferno and Ovid’s Metamorphoses as inspiration for a selection of 22 artworks which will be exhibited throughout June at Batley Art Gallery. Collinge explores the darker side of human existence and the society we live in to create paintings that explore the influence of the landscape and organic forms of nature.
Using oils he works in thin layers to build up fluid and translucent pieces of work. He begins by making random marks on a canvas – he is never quite sure where his work will take him.
