NOW in its 29th year, The Solid Silver 60s Show is back on the road with Brian Poole and The Tremeloes providing the headline act.
Also on the bill will be Chris Farlow, Chris Montez, Wayne Fontana and Vanity Fare. The show will arrive at the Grand Opera House in York on March 2 (0844 871 3024), before moving onto Leeds Grand Theatre on April 6 (0844 848 2700) and Sheffield City Hall on April 24 (0114 278 9789).
For more details about the show and full tour dates go to www.flyingmusic.com “I CAN’T believe I’m still here (and nor can some of my workmates!)” blogged the Orchestra of Opera North’s leader David Greed in 2009, and this most modest and accomplished of orchestral leaders is still here, greatly appreciated by Yorkshire’s music-lovers. He was the youngest leader in the country when appointed by Opera North in 1978, and since then he has guest led other orchestras including the Philharmonia, BBC Philharmonic, Hallé and Covent Garden Royal Opera.
He has received many juicy offers to tempt him away from Leeds. He is the rock on which the success of the Opera North Orchestra has been built, and he is active in many other aspects of Yorkshire’s musical life. He founded the Opera North String Quartet, and for 25 years he has been Music Director of the Sinfonia of Leeds, which he has trained into one of the most polished non-professional orchestras in the country. Tomorrow he is soloist in the Bruch Violin Concerto at York Barbican with Simon Wright and the York Guildhall Orchestra, another remarkable nonprofessional orchestra, albeit with professional ‘stiffening’.
On March 10 he plays Bach’s Chaconne for solo violin in one of Gordon Stewart’s Huddersfield Town Hall organ concerts. On March 22 at Leeds University’s Great Hall he conducts his Sinfonia with Opera North colleague David Aspin as soloist in Walton’s Viola Concerto.
