Sounds of Grand Départ at arena
ACCLAIMED composer Philip Sheppard will conduct the orchestra and chorus of Opera North in a celebration of the Grand Départ at the First Direct Arena.
Sheppard, who arranged all 206 national anthems for the medal ceremonies of the 2012 London Olympics, has written new orchestral works for the event on July 3. The programme also includes performances from Kimberley Walsh, Alistair Griffin, French singer Pauline Vassuer and the orchestra will join Yorkshire band Embrace on stage as the headline act. LOOKING for a rare opera experience? Well head for the Buxton Festival, where Dvorak’s The Jacobin will be making the headline news as one of those forgotten operas that is high on the agenda for a long-overdue new production.
