A clever, foolproof device to prevent misfuelling

Most Fords now have a clever fuel filler neck which prevents petrol being put into a diesel engine.

On most other cars, this potentially disastrous mistake is possible because a petrol nozzle fits into a diesel filler neck. On modern cars, it is not easy to fill a petrol car with diesel by mistake because the narrow petrol filler neck will not take the larger diesel nozzle.

Phil Cartwright, pictured, an RAC patrolman and engineer from Yorkshire, has spent three years perfecting FuelSure, a cap which prevents misfuelling.

Phil said: “I set out to design a solution that was tough, foolproof, easy-to-use and replaced the normal fuel cap, and am extremely satisfied with the result.

“After careful evaluation, technical experts at RAC agree it’s the only product that comes complete with a range of filler neck adaptors in the pack, fits over 80 per cent of cars and light commercial vehicles on UK roads, and can easily be fitted by anyone in a matter of seconds.”

FuelSure costs £29.95 and is available from RAC Patrols and recovery specialists and at some Halfords stores. It is being made in Huddersfield.
