AT Frankfurt, Volkswagen is presenting – alongside the new up! that is a show highlight – a tremendous assortment of new car concepts and models.

Making world debuts are the Beetle R Concept, Beetle Fender, Polo R-Line, Tiguan R-Line, Golf Cabriolet Exclusive and the Phaeton Exclusive Concept.

Meanwhile, the Polo R WRC illustrates how motorsport cars are progressing at Volkswagen.

Highlights in its commercial range include debuts of the Caddy Edition 30 and the Amarok with automatic gearbox. Another show highlight is the extremely fuel-efficient Multivan BlueMotion.

The up! is a small city car just 140 inches long with a high economy one-litre three cylinder engine. It is one of the smallest four-seaters but seemingly capably of big things. When the rear seats are folded away its cargo space is 951 litres. An option is laser-sensing crash mitigation at speeds below 18mph. There are plans for an electric version.

The petrol engine, in 60ps and 75ps tune with stopstart and Bluemotion eco technology can achieve up to 70mpg. Sales begin at the end of the year.

An option includes snapon personal infotainment which includes navigation, telephone and apps.
