Renault makes dash for electric power
Kangoo Zero Emission van and in March the Twizy and Fluence ZE models.
The Fluence is a stylish coupe-like four-door. Twizy is classed as a quadricycle and dubbed “an unprecedented solution for city motoring”. It is a tandem two-seater bubble on four wheels, either with a Perspex half door with side safety bars, or no door. The best range is 62 miles and the price is likely to start at £6,000.
Thierry Koskas, electric vehicle programme director, said: “Electric vehicles are poised to become the flagships of Renault’s eco² drive in favour of the environment, a position

which is centered squarely on the availability of a range of more ecologically-aware and readily affordable products and services.”
Trials of electric Renaults are taking place in several countries, including Australia and Russia. It says that by the middle of next year there will be 50,000 dedicated recharging points in Europe.
At this week’s Frankfurt motor show it launched a range of lower emission Energy diesel and petrol engines, with CO2 reductions of 12 to 25 per cent.
An example is the 1.5 dCi, Renault’s core diesel motor used in one-in-three of its vehicles from Twingo to Laguna and sold in two outputs. Megane will be the first to get the revised 1.5 dCi 110 engine. It has slightly more torque, the same 110ps and will be sold in an Energy version which brings the Megane below 100g/km – zero road tax. It has stopstart ignition – which saves a quarter of a gallon of fuel every 60 miles of town driving.
In January we’ll have the latest Twingo, which launches the marque’s new design ID, with a bigger badge on a front which is more expressive and, if you will, face-like. It has large round sidelights and lidded headlamps – a feature of the 1990s original. There are sliding rear seats, new optional detailing, a choice of roof decals and mirror casing. The 75ps 1.2 petrol engine records 55mpg and 119g/km of CO2. UK delivery is planned for January.
Also on the way, the Twingo Renaultsport 133 in the familiar yellow paint.
ON THE WAY: The new-look Twingo with its more expressive face arrives in January.
