Torque is not cheap for Mercedes’ new edition

THE new C 63 AMG Edition 507 from Mercedes will be available in the UK from July in all three body styles – saloon, estate and coupé.

Not to be confused with a limited or special edition, this will run alongside the standard C 63 AMG until the new model comes in some time next year.

On the road prices start from £66,960 for the saloon, £68,160 for the estate and £68,160 for the coupe. What sets this car apart is the extra 50hp and 10 Nm of torque – bringing the potential power up to 507bhp – hence the name.

That additional oomph allows the Edition 507 to reach 62 mph in 4.2 seconds (4.3 seconds for the estate) and on to a top speed of 174mph.

More often than not, high performance cars are limited to 155mph but Mercedes says the AMG Edition 507 has the power – and the tyres – to cope with the extra speed.

Collectively entitled the AMG Drivers Package, purchase of the de-limited vehicle includes attendance at an AMG training event in Germany at the Bilster Berg Race Resort, Nurburgring GP, Hockenheimring, Sachsenring or Lausitzring.

Customers not wanting to burn up their £67,000 car on the race track can hire a car from AMG – for a fee.
