Sporty Subaru makes its LA entrance in style
THE all-new Subaru WRX sports saloon from the Japanese brand has this week made its world premiere at the 2013 Los Angeles Motor Show.
Equipped with Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and Boxer engine, the new WRX is due on sale in North America and Japan later in 2014 but no news yet on when or if it might come to the UK.
The US model will be powered by a new, highperformance 2.0litre horizontally-opposed direct injection turbo Boxer engine which offers improved performance over the outgoing 2.5litre model. It produces 268bhp at 5,600rpm and 258 lb ft torque from 2,000-5,200 rpm (compared to 265bhp at 6,000rpm and 244 lb ft torque at 4,400rpm for the 2.5litre engine).
It’ll be fitted with a sixspeed manual transmission as standard while a newly developed Sport Lineartronic CVT with an eight-speed shift will be available as an option.
As might be expected with a sports saloon, Subaru engineers have worked on the suspension and steering to ensure the perfect set-up for high performance handling.
Aesthetically it has been tweaked, too, with new nose and rear plus a sleeker silhouette. The wheelbase has been upped by 25mm and the door openings enlarged.
