Yorkshire Post - Motoring - - NEWS -

IN a few months’ time Bentley owners will be removing the wraps from their vintage motors, applying the polish and quietly firing up the old engines in preparation for a very special summer outing.

On Saturday, June 7, at Donington Park nine decades of Bentleys – old and new – will gather in a unique one-marque race to celebrate the 90th anniversary of its first win at Le Mans.

Taking to the track will be 3.0-litres, 3/4½s, 3/8s, 4½s, Derbys, Mark VI Specials and the unique 24.0-litre Bentley Napier as well as the Worthington brothers’ Mulsanne Turbo and technicolour Continental GT.

The 20-minute scratch race is being staged by the Bentley Drivers Club (BDC) at the invitation of the Aston Martin Owners Club which is holding its race meeting at Donington that day.

The BDC’s competitions captain, Sebastian Welch, said: “Ours is a comparatively small club and organising a one-marque race at another race meeting is a significant achievement.”
