Wraps come off McLaren’s new mean machine
THE official stats behind the new McLaren 650S are undeniably impressive.
The standard sprint of zero to 62mph takes three seconds; it’ll hit 124mph in 8.4 seconds before zapping on to its top speed of 207mph.
It is powered by a twinturbocharged 641bhp, V8 engine linked to a sevenspeed dual clutch. With performance levels as they are, it is comforting to know that it has been fitted with carbon ceramic brakes which sit behind unique 650 lightweight alloys.
The 650S will be available in two body styles – Coupe and Spider – when it reaches the showrooms later this month. Pricing starts at a cheek-sucking £195,250 for the former, with the latter requiring buyers to dig a little deeper for the £215,250 asking price. Despite the additional cost, McLaren expects the vast majority of buyers to opt for the Spider with its retractable folding hard top.
Standard spec includes satellite navigation with Bluetooth, DAB digital radio, audio streaming and voice control. Fixed-back carbon racing seats, electric steering column and rear parking camera are extra.
The first models have already rolled off the production line and are winging their way to Switzerland ready for next week’s official unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show.
