Obvious sporty intentions with a dash of practicality
KIA’S first high-performance model, the pro_cee’d GT, has now been joined by a fivedoor version, the cee’d GT, offering the same styling and equipment as the three-door but with a dash of practicality.
European designed, engineered and built, the cee’d GT carries a price tag of £20,495, while the higher specified cee’d GT Tech starts at £22,995.
Both are powered by a turbocharged version of Kia’s 1.6litre direct-injection petrol engine delivering 201bhp at 6,000rpm. Official tests put the zero to 60mph time at 7.4 seconds and top speed at 143mph.
With performance in mind, the suspension has been retuned with increased damper rebound and compression rates, stiffer springs and bushes and the addition of a larger rear anti-roll bar. The brakes - 300mm ventilated discs at the front and 262mm at the rear – are the most powerful ever fitted to the cee’d range. Despite its obvious sporty intentions, those with a cautious right foot can aim for the official combined fuel consumption of 38.2mpg, with CO2 emissions at 171g/km.
Aesthetically, the cee’d GT closely resembles the pro_ cee’d GT, but with a lower, broader bumper and air dam plus a wide, lower air intake to supply additional cooling air to the turbocharged engine. This is underscored by a red trim line which emphasises the wide and sporty track. The lower air intake is flanked on either side by high-gloss black inserts housing ‘ice-cube’ LED daytime running lamps and fog lights. The high-gloss black theme is continued on the graphite chrome-framed main radiator grille which includes a GT badge on the black high-gloss mesh.
At the rear there are dual sports exhaust outlets with the rear number plate framed in high-gloss black and there is a GT badge on the tailgate.
Standard GT spec includes 18-inch graphite grey alloys with red brake calipers, Recaro seats finished in leather and suede, air con, cruise control, reversing sensors, Bluetooth and voice recognition.
GT Tech adds a seven-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation, European mapping and full UK postcode recognition and a reversing camera display.
