Grand Harrogate lifestyle without the price tag
6 Avenue Road, Harrogate Price: £339,950 Contact: Beadnall and Copley, tel: 01423 503500, www.beadnallcopley.co.uk POSTCODE snobbery is rife in Harrogate, but those who widen their search can be richly rewarded.
Victoria Manktelow traded her des-res overlooking the Stray for a stunning Georgian townhouse in Starbeck just over 10 years ago. “We wanted somewhere bigger and this was fantastic value for a superb house.
“There’s an identical terrace in the centre of Harrogate designed by the same architect and houses there are almost double the price of this, plus we have a bigger garden and off-road parking,” says Victoria, a marketing manager.
The four-bedroom house is close to Starbeck station with trains to Leeds, York and London.
“It’s a great spot and the people in the area are very friendly. Everything I want is on the doorstep including a supermarket, a great butcher’s shop, the train and the A1.
“It takes a couple of hours for me to get into London and when I get back after a long day it’s off the train and straight into the house, which is great,” adds Victoria, who is selling to move somewhere with land for her horse.
She and husband John, who have three children, refurbished the house which is full of period features.
The property has a reception hall, cloakroom, drawing room dining room and kitchen with hand-built units from Brookman. On the first floor there are two bedrooms and a bathroom and on the second floor there are two further bedrooms.
There is a lawned garden at the front and a courtyard at the back plus a car port and single garage.
