The age old adage “everyone has at least one good book in them” is certainly true for Brian Collier who, at 77, has published his first novel.

The pensioner, who lives with his wife Margaret at McCarthy & Stone’s Burlington Court development in Bridlington, began writing Up and Down Down Under in 1998.

Brian says: “We moved to Australia in 1968 after a friend aroused our interest. It made sense to us to swap a small three bedroom house crammed with three children in Brough, near Hull, for plenty of land and sunshine down under.

“I wrote my book under the pseudonym Sydney West, as this is where we lived.”

It may not have as much sun, but Brid has sea and sand. The one and two bedroom apartments at Burlington Court are priced from £129,950.
