The plight of Suzy Lamplugh – the estate agent who vanished in 1986 after going to meet a client alone, seems to have been forgotten – according to a survey that reveals more than half of estate agents do not have any lone worker policies for staff who carry out viewings or valuations on their own.

Yorkshire-based PPSS, which specialises in workplace safety, also says that agency staff do not feel safe alone.

The survey shows that 30 per cent of the estate agents questioned had been the victims of verbal abuse, 16 per cent had been intimidated and more than one in 10 had been threatened while conducting viewings.
