House prices move steadily up­ward

The av­er­age price of a new home rose by 1.9 per cent in April 2010 and now stands at £220,190. The an­nual change now stands at -0.3 per cent, the low­est rate of de­cline since April 2008.

How­ever, the de­mand price – the amount prospec­tive pur­chasers are look­ing to pay – has also shown fur­ther growth, up 0.6 per cent to £254,949, 14 per cent higher than the av­er­age stock price.

David Bexon, man­ag­ing di­rec­tor of SmartNewHomes. com says: “The con­tin­ued steady growth in the price of a new home in April shows the strength of de­mand in spite of elec­tion un­cer­tain­ties.”
