Dacre Son & Hartley has backed an appeal to raise money for Ilkley boy Ben Smithson, whose dream is to walk unaided.

Nine-year-old Ben, who has cerebral palsy, walks with the aid of sticks and a walker but hopes to travel to America for a ground-breaking operation in January 2011.

Once the £45,000 is in the bank, the trip will be assured and Ben can undergo the specialist surgery that will give him more independence.

Rosemarie Fisher of Dacre Son & Hartley says: “We were keen to do everything we could to help raise the remaining £15,000 and support such a worthy appeal. Our branches are therefore welcoming cash donations via collection boxes.”

The surgeons in Missouri are on standby for the operation known as selective dorsal rizhotomy.

To donate, contact Rosemarie Fisher on 01943 862131 or send a cheque made payable to: Ben’s wish to walk to Dacre Son & Hartley, The Estate Office, Station Road, Burley LS29 7ND.
